Finding Balance Between Two Worlds 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇹

Finding Balance Between Two Worlds 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇹

Robin Ratajczak

For nine months of the year, I live in California, pouring my energy into Geppetta Boards. Life in America carries its own rhythm — one that so many of us know well. The days are full, schedules are tight, and there’s always another project, another deadline, another thing on the list. Productivity is celebrated, and in many ways, it’s inspiring. I love that sense of drive, the determination to keep creating, building, and achieving.

But then comes the other three months of my year — the season when I step into a completely different pace of life in Italy. In my family’s ancestral village, time moves differently. Dinner isn’t just about eating; it’s about gathering. Families linger at the table for hours, telling stories, laughing, and truly being present with one another. A quick trip to the grocery store might turn into a long conversation in the street, because people pause for connection instead of rushing on to the next thing.

Shops close in the afternoon, and sometimes even for weeks in the summer, so families can rest and take vacations together. At first, I used to think, How do things get done if everything closes? But now I understand — things still get done, but life isn’t sacrificed in the process. Rest, relationships, and presence are valued just as much as work.

Living between these two worlds has shaped me in a profound way. In California, I embrace the energy to create. In Italy, I’m reminded to slow down and simply be. And somewhere in between, Geppetta Boards was born — a blending of those two cultures.

When I design a board, it carries the imprint of both places. From America comes the dedication, the work ethic, and the push to keep innovating. From Italy comes the inspiration, the tradition, and the reminder that what really matters is the moments shared around the table. Every board I make is meant to last, to be part of your family gatherings, to hold food, stories, laughter, and connection.

For me, Geppetta Boards aren’t just products — they’re bridges. They connect my two homes. They hold the spirit of productivity and craft that America taught me, and the warmth, tradition, and pause that Italy instilled in me.

And perhaps most importantly, they are my invitation to you: to gather, to pause, and to enjoy the beauty of both doing and being.

With gratitude,

Robin
