A Gift of Grace: A Mother’s Day Board That Told a Story

Some of the most meaningful projects I create begin with a story—and this one, from three brothers, touched me deeply.

They had been quietly following my work for a while, watching as each handcrafted Geppetta board came to life. But this time, they reached out with a special request—one that carried the weight of love, memories, and a desire to give their mother something extraordinary.

Their mom, they told me, has always had a deep love for peacocks. To her, the peacock symbolizes grace, strength, and beauty—qualities she not only admires but lives by. When they came across these intricate brass handles shaped like peacocks, they knew instantly: this was it. This would be the centerpiece of her board.

They wanted the wood to feel rich and grounding—so we chose a piece of California walnut with swirling grain and deep, warm tones. The peacock handles were fitted at each end, almost like protectors of the story that the board would carry. And  in the center, I engraved the word “family”, a simple yet powerful reflection of the bond they share.

This was not just a serving board. It was a tribute. A living heirloom that would sit at the center of their mother’s home, ready to hold not just cheeses and olives, but birthday celebrations, holiday spreads, and everyday moments shared around the table.

As I wrapped the board in Italian ribbon and tied it with care, I couldn’t help but smile—this was the kind of piece that reminds me why I do what I do.

To the brothers who made this gift happen: thank you for letting me be part of your story. And to anyone reading this who’s searching for a meaningful gift, I hope this inspires you to create something personal, something lasting, something that speaks to the heart.

Because at Geppetta, every board has a story. Let me help you tell yours.
